Furry Furman

energetic dogSome names have a talent for disappearing right off the radar and become exotic and strange to the ear. When you first hear them, you might even think someone is using a nickname or even mispronouncing a more common name, but nope. That’s the name your pooch has, and it isn’t made up in the least.

Meanings

One of these particular names happen to be Furman. It sounds a lot like Herman, which is why when I first heard it, I said it all wrong. But it was legitimately Furman, an older name from a whole other time period. And to boot, it is perfect for pooches, particularly the furry ones.

One particular origin is believed to be found in the seventh century, and was actually a job description that had become a surname. Another occupational reason for the name is found in the German “ferryman.”

It is also likely that the name was founded from two defining components, “Firm” and “Man.” The name would demonstrate a strong, solid, good foundation in a friend. And that’s a very nice definition for a faithful companion who also happens to be a little furry.

Rare, but you may have heard…

The reason for rarity actually comes from the fact that it was only moderately popular as a first name from around 1880 to 1920. After that, the rest becomes history. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t left its mark in the books of history. In fact, this name is a mathematical unit of measure, named after Alan T. Furman. Another rather interesting mention is Furman Bishop, a famous sports writer, who very interestingly had attended Furman University for his education.

Furman the helpful

Pups bearing this name tend to be helpful in any which way they can conjure. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are completely helpful though. At times, they love to jump in and “help” by doing something, even if it happens to be hindering you. They try to help and have no ill intentions, even if they do tend to foul out occasionally (biting the newspaper too hard or nipping small holes in your slipper when they’re bringing you gifts). They just want to help, and with good instruction, they can be a blessing around the house.

These pups try hard at everything and always give it all they can muster. Whether you’re in a wrestling match or a game of tug-rope, they will go on until you are tired. These pups are destined to wear you out, so it’s a good name for a pup if you also happen to be an energetic person. And though there is no “I” in “team,” there is a dog.

Furman is an old name, quite rare in fact, which does give it that unique characteristic that some are looking for. Helpful to the end, these pups have a lot of heart and are always willing to go on an adventure with their best friends. So please share an adventure about you and your pup,
