Sir Lance, The Fuzzy

DaschundThere is an almost unlimited amount of names in the world. Different spelling, different combinations (Mary Anne), and unique parts of the world make creating a name unique to an individual. And that’s what it’s supposed to do.

But there are certain names that have a funny story behind their origin. As it turns out, a fairly popular name, Lance, has a strange story to it, and depending where you are, may have a different meaning.

Who is the original Lance?

The meanings are very different in this situation. The English and American meanings refer to the name as pertaining to “servant,” or “god-like.” However, in the French and Old German languages, the name means “land.” And technically, it is the French term for a “lance” or spear as well.

Now here’s the tricky part. Lanny is perhaps the only nickname for Lance, but it turns out that the name itself is actually a sort of strange situation, specifically concerning nicknames. It was originally the name “Lanzo,” and is still pronounced that way in today’s German language. And coincidentally, it is short for the name, Lancelot, which happens to be derived from the name Lance in the first place. It is a matter of which came first, the chicken or the egg situation. But as it turns out in this scenario, Lance came first.

Love, stability and order

Dogs bearing this particularly noble name love to be affectionate. Snuggling, hugs, and kisses are quite popular, and there just never seems to be enough love to satisfy them, so they keep making more to try to cover the difference.

They don’t like sudden changes to the schedule. When it’s dinner time…it’s dinner time and that means there should be food. These rascals will wait at the food bowl as if loyal to time itself.

They are also successful in what they do. Have a puzzle? Solved. Ask them a question, they find the answer (even if you can’t understand an arf they’re woofing.)

They tend to get focused on the moment, which does keep them busy. There’s this way, that way, tail wag, and a whole list of things on their doggy agenda.
