Puppy Klaus

Dog santa hatMany owners enjoy giving their pups unique names. A name that reflects creativity, perhaps a story, some lightheartedness, or maybe one that has a sound that’s really neat and tends to make your pup stand out during conversations with friends.

The holidays are coming up, so we’ll take a moment to explore a name that might sound a little silly, but will perhaps just hit the spot for some of those pups finding a home during the holiday season.

Common? Not so common after all

There is a very familiar name that many might recognize. Many of us refer to it every year, and children everywhere recognize it since they’ve probably even met the man a time or two. The big jolly fellow that tumbles down the chimney, bringing presents and good cheer just so happens to open up a few name ideas for the always-jolly furry companions out there.

Ol’ Saint Nicholas and Kris Kringle are the names attributed to jolly old Santa Claus. If Christmas happens to be your favorite time of the year, you may consider the name Klaus for your pooch. It’s short enough for your pup to catch on to, unique enough to stand out, and it has a festive ring to it.

Technically, the name Klaus is almost a pun in regards to a furry pooch. Your pup has claws on their paws and if the name Klaus happens to be on their collar too, you just have to add a Christmas hat and your pup is warm and ready for the holiday season.

But there’re also a couple of other options to choose from in this case. You could spell Klaus with a “C,” or simply name your pup Claws, especially if they happens to have huge paws. Alternatively, you may even decide to go with the longer title of Santa Claws, particularly if you enjoy giving your pup a full-name or title.

The story of Klaus

The thing about the name Klaus is that it’s actually sourced from a nickname. Klaus is the short-form for Nicholas in the German language, which is where the name Santa Claus is derived from.  Over time, Nicholas became Klaus, and as he became a big representation of the holiday season and spirit, the name was merged together for a more “Christmasy” sound that many could familiarize with.

Klaus is technically pronounced “KLOWS” (with a German accent), though you can emphasize it as “Claws” instead, much like today’s Claus is pronounced, so that it fits your furry companion’s particular “pup-sonality.”

If you’re ready for the holiday season and you just happen to have a pooch who enjoys them too, Klaus is a name that fits right into your life. The nice thing about having a jolly Klaus around all year is that you always get to enjoy the joy of the holiday spirit. Please share your own stories of what inspired your pup’s holiday season name, even as you enjoy the festive season.
