Meagan

Beautiful DogJudging at face value, some names tend to be overlooked and underestimated, especially when they sound a little out of place. But these are the names that tend to be compatible with our pups because they accurately define the dog’s “personality” and attitude.

Meagan is a name that has dropped off in popularity in recent years. The name itself can be taken to mean pearl, little pearl, or pearl drop. A pearl is a very precious stone as it takes a long time to mold simple sand and silt into something so beautiful. To any dog lover, it goes without saying that their precious pup is just like a pearl in their life.

To make a distinction in pronunciation from the more popular Megan, it’s pronounced “MAY-gan” (quite cool for summertime born pups) rather than “meg-ann.” Another choice, “Mee-gan,” is uncommon in the U.S. and but a choice pronunciation in Australia, perhaps because of the difference in accents.

Meagan’s history

Meagan comes from the name Megan, which has its origins in early Welsh and Celtic times. It became a very popular name in America (as Meagan) and peaked in the 1980’s. Some argue that the Greek version Margaret was inspiration for the name, but there isn’t any conclusive evidence to support it. But it is a nice name as well.

The thing about this name is that it has numerous spelling variations. In fact, that happens to be a contention to many considering the name. The original spelling, Megan, is the popular version. Then there are others such as Meagan, Meghan, Meaghan, Megyn, and Meagen. Any spelling variation can find its home with the right owner.

When coming up with a shorter, snazzier way to call your furry little pal, the name has another set of variations as well. There’s Megz, Meg, Meggo, or Meggie.

Bold and beautiful

Pups named Meagan are strong, independent, bold and beautiful. They love adventure and wherever it may take them. At times, this trait can be something of a nuisance, especially with a pup that happens to be an escape artist or “ninja” dog: When they see something, they set their heart to it and can be difficult to control.

Megan’s of all kinds

A number of popular personalities bear the name Megan (and its variations). Megan Fox is an American actress renowned for her starring role in Michael Bay’s Transformers movie franchise. Another television face is Megyn Kelly, an American news anchor and journalist. To keep the beauty theme going, there is Megan Young, a Filipina-American actress who won the Miss World beauty contest in 2013. For those that love comedy, there’s the character Meg Griffin of the adult cartoon series, Family Guy, shown by television network Fox.

Just as a pearl takes time to become the precious stone does true friendship to form with your Meagan require as well. When it does, your dog becomes more than just a pet; they become a true companion. Do you have a pearl in your life? Share your stories with us, we would love to hear them.
